Is there a waiting line at the treadmill? Then grab that lonely jump rope in the corner of the gym. Rope jumping is one of the most effective fat-burning exercises. When you tire of jumping the traditional way,
try this new twist suggested by Patrick Avon, President of the Sergeant's Fitness Program near Washington, D.C.: Change your grip. Instead of holding the rope handles palms up, grab them palms down, thumbs facing in. This small adjustment takes the wrists out of the movement and forces you to use the muscles of your upper back and shoulders to spin the rope.
